Attempting to seal the records from Mother and Baby homes 30 years is simply wrong. I appeal to all right minded politicians to vote against this Bill allowing such action.
The survivors and their families are entitled to be able to access their own records but also retain their privacy. The current bill does not allow for this and needs to be scrapped.
The Minister should produce an anonymised index of the records held by the Commission, consult with survivors and families and then draft appropriate legislation that meets the rights of survivors and the moral obligations of the State.
Truth and justice will not be achieved by rushing this inappropriate bill through to legislation.
