Citizen Personal Data Interactions

The ever-increasing amount of online government services has significant data implications for citizens’ interactions with State. The Data Sharing and Governance Bill 2018 will provide clear guidelines on how State agencies share personal data.

An important component of the bill is a Citizens Portal where people can check what data has been shared between agencies. A rationale for WHY the data was shared should also be provided.

I am concerned about State services that have been tendered to companies outside the EU. An example is JobPath which engages UK services. Guarantees that all companies domestic, EU and foreign be subject to the provisions in this bill will be required.

Of course, improvements to rural broadband will be essential to fair and inclusive access.
