Palpable Concerns for West Mayo Health Services

There are palpable concerns in Bangor/Erris and Glenamoy that the current level of health services will not be maintained after the new GP post is filled. Therefore, I contacted the HSE to get assurances that the:

  • Bangor Clinic will remain open 39 hours with full time nurse and full time administration;
  • Glenamoy Clinic is will remain open with a full time nurse and administration;
  • Geesala clinic will be covered;
  • Out of hours services will be guaranteed.

The HSE responded that they “intend to continue to provide services from existing locations, however as you can understand, we cannot comment on the contractual arrangements of non HSE staff.”

It is very important that a condition of the contract be that the two existing clinics in Bangor and Glenamoy, including existing staff, be left as they are and that the Geesala Clinic remains open.  To do this the two GMS allowances must be allocated as previously. I will continue to seek contractual clarifications from the HSE. People need to have confidence in the health service that is being delivered to them throughout the area

The GP post for Bangor/Erris and Glenamoy was offered to the top candidate from the recruitment process on February 17th and a decision from that individual is expected on Friday, February 28th 2020. If it is not accepted, the next candidate will be offered the position with one week to respond.
