Our third-level education system must aspire to be the best possible experience for our students for learning, socialising, coping with change, and looking forward to achieving their desired futures. Unfortunately, for too many, it is a pressure cooker of financial anxiety.
It is encouraging that the Minister recognises the many shortcomings of the SUSI grant system, the overpriced fees, and the hardships that students and parents are enduring. The establishment of a department dedicated to advancing further and higher education is a first step.
As the Sinn Féin spokesperson on these subjects, I want the Minister to know that our goal is to be constructive in opposition in order to achieve the necessary outcomes that lead to a better education system for all; and also to hold government to account for what is promised.
